The Liberty Learning Path

My structured, logical learning path is a series of fundamental lesson plans designed to keep you on-track and focused while navigating your guitar journey. We will work down the path with each lessons building from the previous one, ensuring you do not get lost while rocking your way to guitar glory. When you reach your destination you will find you have become a well-rounded and creatively open-minded guitar player with a wealth of skills and knowledge.

Off this main path, you may suggest and I may require additional lesson trails available for us to dig deeper into the lessons. We will take these trails when necessary or at the request of the student while we are navigating along the main path. Every student is different, each with a unique way of learning. Having these additional learning trails available will make sure your goals are met by catering to you and your learning ability.

Below you will see my standard learning path featuring examples of potential side trails to explore.

Introduction

This part of the path will introduce you to the instrument. How to choose the right guitar, learn the parts of the guitar, how to hold it, proper posture, etc.

Fundamentals

This part of the path will introduce you to the basic fundamentals necessary to understand the rest of the lessons. Everything in the Guitar 101 section is learned on this part of the path.

Chords (part one)

On this path you will learn the most basic guitar chords for beginners. They are sometimes referred to as open position chords, because they are played on the first few frets of the guitar and all contain at least one open string.

Strumming Patterns

A strumming pattern is a preset pattern of down and up strokes played with your fingers or a pick against the strings. The strumming pattern will determine the rhythm for your music.

Playing Songs

There are two things you need to know if you want to play songs on the guitar: chords and strumming patterns. A chord is a collection of notes played on the guitar that will give you a particular sound and color. Many popular songs consist of only three or four chords. A strumming pattern is a preset pattern of down and up strokes played with your fingers or a pick against the strings. The strumming pattern will help to determine the rhythm for your music.

Chords (part two)

Basic chords are enough to get you started playing your favorite songs, but a full understanding of advanced chord theory will greatly improve your playing. Intervals, advanced chord fingerings and voicings, and conversions are covered on this part of our learning path.

Rhythm and Riffs

A solid rhythm guitar track is the backbone to any great song, and in many cases the rhythm can prove to be quite difficult yet fun to play. Blues and Funk songs have complex and challenging rhythms and will test your strength and stamina as a player.

Scales

Scales are the foundation of all lead guitar work, and when it comes to soloing and improvisation you must know your way around the fretboard. Learning guitar scales is a great way to further understand music theory. This makes you a significantly better guitarist because you start to truly understand the instrument.
